Interesting, mine gave out at about 6500 miles, I had the replacement here and cut a hole clear through to the tube on short trip after some Honda parts for my BIL about 35 miles away. Managed to get home and got the new tire mounted. I would be careful with larger sizes, I went with Metzler ME 88, in a 140/90 x15. Same size but slightly higher. Well, not only is is slighly higher it is a load range C tire(R or 6 ply rating) so it is is taller and has rally stiff widewalls. It works fine, shows a rub spot on the Left curb strip I assume is from the saddle bag bracket bolt heads. I'm watching it and time is wearing away the problem. I felt the low mileage on the orginal may have been due to it being close to loaded when I'm on it. I'm a heavy guy, and have no idea what the owner was who ran the 1st 3800 miles. It was showing wear when I bought it used. I believe this one will go the distance and I have a mathcing front that will go on next before next spring. The orginal has OK tread but is showing some scalloping signs. No weight so it may be out of balance, hard to tell on these county roads. I have changed many cycle tires and have the special tire irons, but I used up 2 numeric 3.25-3.5 x 15 and would recommend a new matching tube for the new tires. I used up all the the tubes in town, so patched the old one and it went together correctly. If you can buy local and get a deal on mounting and balancing, I think it would be worth it. Also getting the tire/wheel off and on the bike with a jack working on the floor is a real treat. I don't know how you would do it along side the road if the need arose. Max
